Summer Jams

I love music as much as I do art and I'm thrilled when the two come together. Check out my latest with artist and music lover Modou Dieng for Open Door Contemporary Art Projects (ODCAP), a new art web portal created by art historian and curator, Lizzetta LeFalle Collins.

Talking Chuck Berry to Bob Sinclar, Rodin to Warhol, Bono to James Brown, Dieng’s vinyl record sculptures ("Jimi Hendrix Haircut" pictured here) were the launch pad for a wide-ranging dialog of art, fashion, and music.

This rap session with Dieng, titled "On & Off the Record," is the start of a new conversation series that I'll be doing for ODCAP. Congrats to Lizzetta on this new web initiative and to Modou on his soon to open art and music space, both based in Portland, Oregon.

Aside from the pure sweetness of Dieng's artwork (click here to visit his personal website), I'll share some of my best Summer '07 confectionery memories and recommendations:
  • City Bakery NYC: the 2 for $1 peanut butter cookies are always a favorite.
  • Magnolia Bakery: now I know why their banana pudding is so famous.
  • Balducci's Food Market: "Lotus in Mud" -- a chocolate cake so good it's criminal.
  • Ben & Jerry's: Oatmeal Cookie Chunk ice cream -- a perfect blend of cinnamony sweetness & chunk.
  • Cookshop Restaurant & Bar: Cornmeal Pancakes w/ berry compote, caramelized bananas & cinnamon butter -- need I say more?

I'm so glad someone else enjoys Magnolia's banana pudding, I'm not a big fan of their cupcakes but the pudding rocks!
